What You Can Book
One booking form covers four kinds of journey. The details you enter are the same each time; what changes is where you’re going and what you’ll be carrying.
Journeys to and from London's six airports: Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, London City and Southend. Airport trips have a few quirks of their own, so they get a section below. For the full picture, see our airport taxi transfers page.Airport taxi transfers
Everyday trips around London: a hospital appointment, a dinner reservation, getting home with the shopping. They're short and usually booked a day or two ahead. Our local taxi service in London explains the areas covered.Local taxi service in London
City-to-city trips from London or Heathrow, such as Oxford, Cambridge, Birmingham or Bristol, booked the same way as a local run. Fares are worked out by distance, as our long-distance taxi page shows.Long-distance taxi
Rides between London's railway termini and homes, hotels or airports. Worth knowing: private hire cars can't use station taxi ranks, so pickups happen at designated points. Our train station transfers page covers each terminus.Train station transfers
Airport Transfers
Airport trips are where booking ahead matters most. Flights don’t wait, and arriving passengers rarely want to queue for a cab after a long journey. Booking online lets you arrange both directions before you travel.
Enter your home, hotel or office as the pickup and the airport as your destination. Include the terminal if the airport has more than one. Heathrow has four, and Gatwick has North and South.
Enter the airport as your pickup and your address as the destination, with your scheduled landing time as the travel time.
Book your outbound and return as two separate journeys, each with its own date and time.
Airport Drop-Off Charges — from 1 January 2026
Every London airport now charges cars to use its terminal drop-off area. Pickups happen in car parks or designated zones rather than on the forecourt. Our airport taxi transfers page lists the charges and pickup points for all six airports.
Step by Step
The booking runs in four steps. Most people are done within a few minutes.
Type your pickup location, destination, travel date and time into the booking form. Full addresses or postcodes give the most accurate estimate, because fares are based on road distance.
Once your details are in, you'll see the options available for your journey, with an estimated fare for each vehicle. Compare them on space and price before choosing.
You'll be asked for the details needed to complete the booking, such as your name and contact information. Have any journey-specific details to hand as well.
Confirm your booking to finish. Our booking form is an integrated external booking system, so your reservation is handled under the booking partner's terms. Your booking confirmation sets out the details for your journey.
Plan Ahead
Pre-booking a taxi means the car, the time and the estimated fare are settled before travel day. For some journeys that’s simply convenient. For others it’s the difference between a calm start and a stressful one.
It matters most for airport travel. For an early departure, you won’t be hunting for a cab at 5am. For an arrival, your ride is arranged before you land. Long-distance journeys benefit too, because you can choose the right-sized vehicle for a two- or three-hour trip rather than taking whatever is free. For station transfers, booking ahead means you’re not joining the black-cab queue when a full intercity train empties onto the platform.
Book as soon as your plans are fixed. You’ll have the widest choice of vehicle, and one less thing to sort out nearer the time.
London Law
In London, a private hire car, or minicab, can’t be hailed in the street. It has to be booked in advance, and Visit London’s guidance is blunt: an unbooked minicab offering you a ride is illegal and unsafe. Black cabs are the only taxis you can flag down. Online taxi booking is simply the easiest way to make that advance booking, with the journey, the vehicle and the estimated fare all on record before you travel.
Fleet
Choose by passengers and luggage together. The table shows each vehicle’s minimum fare, which covers journeys of up to 5 miles.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Good for | Minimum fare (up to 5 miles) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saloon | Up to 4 | Solo travellers and couples, 2 large cases | £30.00 |
| Estate | Up to 4 | Extra luggage | £31.20 |
| MPV (5–7 seats) | Up to 6 | Families and small groups | from £33.00 |
| 8-Seater MPV | Up to 8 | Larger groups | £39.00 |
| Executive | — | Business and special occasions | £36.00 |
| Executive MPV | — | Business groups | £42.00 |
These are estimated fares — you can confirm your fare at booking. The final price may vary with vehicle type, passenger and luggage numbers, pickup time and any additional stops.

The standard choice for most journeys: up to four passengers and two large suitcases. It's the lowest-priced vehicle on our rate card, estimated at £30.00 for up to 5 miles. This is an estimated fare — you can confirm your fare at booking.

The same passenger space as a saloon, with a bigger boot. Choose it when the bags outnumber the people, such as for a family holiday, a big shop or a student move.

MPVs come in 5, 6 and 7-seat sizes and carry up to six passengers with luggage. They suit families and small groups who'd be squeezed in a saloon.

MPV space in a premium vehicle. A popular choice for business groups heading to the airport together.

For groups of up to eight, one 8-seater keeps everyone and their bags together in a single booking.
Our Home Airport
Heathrow is our home airport, and online booking works the same for every terminal.
With Heathrow Airport Ride, choose your terminal when you book: 2, 3, 4 or 5. Each has its own drop-off area, and Heathrow charges every car £7 to enter one. Check your airline's terminal before you book, because Terminal 4 sits on the far side of the airport from 2, 3 and 5.
Enter Heathrow as your pickup, with your terminal and landing time. Private hire pickups at Heathrow use the terminal car parks rather than the arrivals forecourt. Your pickup details are set out in your booking.
For terminal-by-terminal detail, popular routes and Heathrow fares, see our Heathrow airport taxi page. If you're still deciding how to travel, our guide to how to get to Heathrow Airport compares the train, Tube, coach and car.

Be Prepared
Having these details ready makes booking quicker.
The full address and postcode where your journey starts. For flats, hotels or large sites, note a clear meeting point, such as "main entrance" or "hotel lobby".
Where you're going, as precisely as possible. For an airport, include the terminal. For a station, give the station name.
For departures, the time you want collecting. For arrivals, your scheduled landing time or train arrival time.
How many people are travelling and roughly how many large cases. Together these decide which vehicle fits.
If you're booking an airport pickup, have your flight number and landing time to hand while you book.
What Happens Next
Here’s what happens between clicking “book” and getting in the car.
Our booking form connects you to an integrated external booking system. Your reservation, and any later changes or cancellations, is handled under the booking partner’s terms. Your booking confirmation is the document to keep: it holds the details for your journey and the information you need if anything changes.
The essentials are in a few short pages, so you can check them before you book:

Why Book Online
The point of booking online is that it’s all in one place, whenever suits you. That could be a Sunday evening, a lunch break, or the night before an early flight. You type your journey into a single form, compare vehicles and estimated fares side by side, and finish every step without a phone call. By the time you travel, the only thing left to do is be ready at the door.
Booking online also leaves you with a written record. Your pickup point, time, vehicle and estimated fare are all set out in your booking confirmation, so there’s no confusion on the day about where to meet or what was arranged. If you’re organising a taxi for a parent, a guest or a colleague, that record is simple to pass on.
It takes the guesswork out of choosing a vehicle, too. Because the Taxi Fare Calculator shows each option side by side, you can check whether an estate or an MPV fits your luggage before you commit, rather than finding out at the kerb that the boot is too small. Our fleet page compares every vehicle by passengers and luggage, which makes online taxi booking quicker still.

Common Questions
Enter your pickup location, destination, travel date and time in the booking form, then review the available options and estimated fares. Choose a vehicle, add your booking details and confirm. Most bookings take only a few minutes.
Yes. You can book transfers to and from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, London City and Southend. Include your terminal, and for pickups, your landing time. Our airport taxi transfers page explains each airport’s drop-off and pickup arrangements.
Yes. Choose a future date and time when you book. Pre-booking is especially useful for early flights, long-distance trips and station pickups, when finding a car on the spot can be difficult.
Your pickup address, destination, travel date and time, and the number of passengers and large cases. For airport pickups, have your flight number and landing time to hand.
Yes. Long-distance journeys from London and Heathrow to cities such as Oxford, Cambridge and Birmingham are booked through the same form. A saloon to Oxford, about 60 miles from Central London, is estimated at £101.50. This is an estimated fare — you can confirm your fare at booking.
Each vehicle has a minimum fare covering the first 5 miles, then a per-mile rate for the rest of the journey. For a saloon, that’s £30.00 plus £1.30 a mile, so a 20-mile trip is estimated at £49.50. This is an estimated fare — you can confirm your fare at booking.
Yes. Book the outward trip and the return as two separate journeys, each with its own date, time and pickup point. That way a delayed return flight or a change of plan only affects one booking, not both.
Yes. Choose a vehicle that fits everyone and their luggage. 6 and 7-seat MPVs suit most families, and the 8-seater MPV carries up to eight passengers in one booking, which is simpler than co-ordinating two cars.
Our booking changes and cancellation policy explains how amendments and cancellations work. Bookings are handled under the booking partner’s terms, so check your booking confirmation for the details of your reservation.
Booking ahead is the safe way to use a minicab in London. Transport for London’s Safer Travel guidance is clear that an unbooked minicab is illegal and uninsured, and that your booking confirmation should tell you which car and driver to expect. Online taxi booking gives you that record before you travel. If the car or driver arriving doesn’t match your booking, don’t get in.
A black cab is a licensed London taxi, so you can hail one in the street or find one at a rank. A minicab, or private hire car, can’t be hailed. It has to be booked in advance by phone, app or online. That’s why an online taxi booking with Heathrow Airport Ride is arranged before you travel, with the journey, the vehicle and the estimated fare shown before you confirm.
As soon as your plans are fixed. For airport runs, early-morning departures and busy periods such as school holidays, booking a few days ahead gives you the widest choice of vehicle. For an everyday local trip, a day or two ahead is usually plenty. You can book a taxi online for any future date and time in the Taxi Fare Calculator.
It can. The fare you see when you book a taxi online is an estimate based on your route and your vehicle. Change the pickup, the destination or the vehicle, or add a stop, and the estimate changes with it. This is an estimated fare — you can confirm your fare at booking. Our booking changes and cancellation policy explains how amendments work.
Enter your journey details to start your online taxi booking with Heathrow Airport Ride. It takes a few minutes, and you’ll see your estimated fare before you confirm.
